NPA ‘supporter’ involved in 2011 robbery nabbed in Manila


ONE of the supporters of the New People’s Army (NPA) who was involved in a robbery of a fishpond in northern Negros last year was arrested in Metro Manila Thursday.
Colonel Oscar Lactao, 303rd Infantry Battalion commander, identified the suspect as Gerlo Dalogdog of Barangay Cervantes, Escalante City, Negros Occidental who was arrested in Mercedes Village, Daang Bangka, Pasig City.
Lactao said Dalogdog was arrested in a joint operation of the military and Cainta Police Station in by virtue of arrest warrant for robbery in band issued by Judge Renato Muñez of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 60, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
He said Dalogdog was identified as one of the suspects in the robbery of a fishpond owned by the Sarrosa family at Barangay Bolanon, Sagay City, Negros Occidental last July 16, 2011.
The perpetrators were believed to be members of the CPP-NPA under Rogelio Danoso alias Gildo and Era.
Lactao said the suspects took a baby armalite rifle, two M14 rifles, a shotgun, a caliber .22 revolver, an Icom base radio, wallets and cellular phones.
Witnesses said that Dalogdog, who was on duty as a security guard at Sarrosa Fishpond when the NPA rebels attacked the area, served as lookout of the NPA to give then signal to initiate the raid.
Lactao added that after the robbery in Sagay City, Dalogdog tried to hide until he was arrested in Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, Lactao encouraged the public not to support the activities of the NPA, warning that those who support the NPA will be treated as principal suspects in the crimes committed by the rebel group and that charges will be filed accordingly against them.
