1 soldier killed, 3 troops wounded in Zamboanga City river ambush

One soldier died and three other government troops were wounded in a Tuesday evening firefight with unidentified armed men in Zamboanga City.

On GMA News Saksi newscast, reporter Ian Cruz said, according to a survivor of the ambush, the personnel of the military’s Task Force Zamboanga, were in their riverboat when another small vessel blocked their path and the assailants fired at them.

The civilian militia volunteer said the incident happened at about 8:30pm and their group's exchange of gunfire with four armed men lasted about 15 minutes.

The dead and wounded have not yet been identified.

Reinforcements were deployed to pursue the assailants but they were nowhere to be found. Zamboanga City has been on red alert since the last week’s deadly battles in Basilan and other parts of Western Mindanao. — ELR, GMA News
