SUBIC BAY, Zambales — The “USS Stockdale (DDG-106),” an Arleigh
Burke-class guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy (USN),
arrived here for the first time yesterday to undergo a routine port
visit.
Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator
Roberto Garcia said the visit in the Philippines is part of the ship’s
nine-month deployment to the Western Pacific that began in January this
year.
He said the visit will also permit the Stockdale to replenish
supplies as well as offer its crew an opportunity for rest and
relaxation.
Quoting Cdr. Lex Walker, Commanding Officer, USS Stockdale, Garcia
said “visiting Subic Bay provides us with a great opportunity to
continue the long-term relationship between the Philippines and the
United States… and that is very important to us.”
He said Walker also spoke about the diversity of his crew, many of
whom are Filipino-American sailors, and urged the Filipino citizens to
look at the ship.
