PNoy vows to modernize the Air Force

President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday promised the Philippine Air Force more modernized equipment and facilities as he led the turnover of command to new Air Force chief Maj Gen Lauro dela Cruz

"Mulat po tayong kailangan pang palakasin ang inyong hanay kaya naman makakaasa kayo sa tuloy tuloy na modernisasyon ng inyong hanay upang mapabuti pa ang inyong serbisyo publiko," Aquino said in his speech during the ceremonies.

He, however, did not specify the equipment or facilities to be procured for PAF but acknowledged that the country only has one C-130 which was used to transport relief goods to the areas affected by tropical storm "Sendong" (Washi) last month.

The President said his administration will not take for granted the sacrifices of the members of the Air Force.

Aquino also expressed his confidence that Dela Cruz will be able to bring the PAF to greater heights as he thanked outgoing Armed Force Chief Lt Gen Oscar Rabena for the reforms he implemented.

Dela Cruz, in his speech, vowed to "power up" the Air Force and assured Aquino that "PAF will always be a proud practitioner of your advocacy of transparency and good governance."

Rabena, for his part, said "Dela Cruz is no doubt the right choice" and "Philippine Air Force will be in good hands." –KG, GMA News
