Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the public may get to know the next PAF chief on the day of Rabena’s retirement.
“We may get to know who will succeed Rabena on the day of his retirement. We have not received any advice about his replacement,” she said on government-run dzRB radio.
Earlier reports had said the Armed Forces of the Philippines had submitted to Aquino a shortlist of possible successors to Rabena, who retires Jan. 10.
The reports cited sources who said the four Air Force officers on the list are:
- Maj. Gen. Jose Villarete, commander of the 3rd Air Division
- Maj. Gen. Ricardo Banayat, chief of the 1st Air Division
- Maj. Gen. Lauro de la Cruz, chief of air staff
- Maj. Gen. Gregorio Macapagal, chief of the Air Training and Education Command.
