Explosive recovered in Sultan Kudarat - military

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Another improvised explosive device was recovered in Sultan Kudarat province, four hours after an explosive was defused along the highway in Kabacan town in North Cotabato, military reports said Wednedsay.

Reports from the Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command said the explosive was found around 11 a.m. near a gasoline station in Isulan town.

The improvised bomb, discovered by workers of the gasoline station, consisted of a 60-mm mortar with a mobile phone as its triggering device.

The military report said bomb experts from the local Army responded to a distress call and successfully defused the explosive using a water disruptor.

In Kabacan town, Superintendent Joseph Semillano said the bombings in his area-of-responsibility were related to each other.

At least five IEDs were planted in two different areas in Kabacan town since Tuesday night, Semillano said.

Of these, one went off, the other two were defused by bomb experts using a water disruptor, and the rest were turned over to the North Cotabato Provincial Police Office.

"Though these bombs are considered signatures of an armed group in Mindanao, we have yet to investigate further the motive behind the bombings," Semillano said. — Malu Manar/RSJ, GMA News
