1 soldier killed, 3 others hurt in Davao Or clash

An Army enlisted personnel was killed while three others were wounded following a clash with suspected communist insurgents in Davao Oriental Tuesday afternoon, a regional military spokesman said Wednesday.

Citing belated reports, Col. Leopoldo Galon of the Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command said about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, a platoon of soldiers belonging to the 28th Infantry Battalion engaged 60 New People's Army rebels at Sitio Kinawasan in Barangay San Isidro in Lupon town.

The firefight lasted for almost two hours, resulting in the government casualties. No casualties were reported on the rebel side.

Government troops have since conducted pursuit operations against the rebels, Galon said.
