Troops arrest Abu Sayyaf bomb-maker

COMBINED police and military operatives have arrested a suspected Abu Sayyaf bandit who was involved in the Dos Palmas kidnapping in 2001, the police said.
The Basilan police command reported the suspect was arrested around 9 a.m. Tuesday in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.
Arrested was Sonny Baki Barahim alias Abu Ismael, who is also an alleged trained bomb-maker. He was nabbed on the strength of an arrest warrant issued for his involvement in the 2001 Dos Palmas kidnapping.
The police said Barahim served as one of the guards of American missionary couple Martin and Gracia Burnham.
The Burnham couple was seized together with 19 others, including another American citizen Guillermo Sobero, by the Abu Sayyaf bandits on May 27, 2001 at Dos Palmas Resort along Honday Bay, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
Barahim was taken to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group headquarters in Zamboanga City.
He denied the charges hurled against him, claiming he is just a tricycle driver and had worked as a laborer at a sawmill company in Lamitan City.
