Abu Sayyaf member in Lamitan siege falls — police

An alleged Abu Sayyaf member with a warrant of arrest issued against him in Basilan province was arrested Wednesday in the provincial capital of Isabela City, a police official said.

Jaimiri Bagsik, allegedly a follower of slain Abu Sayyaf leader Khaddafy Janjalani, was arrested at 9:45 a.m. in Brgy. Kapayawan, according to Police Director Felicisimo Khu, head of the national police’s Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Western Mindanao.

He said Bagsik, wanted for kidnapping and illegal detention, is the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by the Basilan Regional Trial Court.

Khu said Bagsik, who is also known as Jumaril, was involved in the abduction of six farmers from Golden Harvest plantation in June 2001, and the attack on St. Peter’s Church and a hospital compound in Lamitan on June 2, 2001.
